PrQS
480-credit BSc (Honours) in Quantity Surveying, SACQSP-accredited

Professional Quantity Surveyor (480-credit Hons route)

Recognised 480-credit BSc (Honours) QS. About 3 years / 5,700 hours of structured workplace training, then APC interview. PSMs exempt.

PrQS
360-credit BSc or equivalent QS / cognate degree

Professional Quantity Surveyor (360-credit degree route)

360-credit BSc or equivalent. About 4 years of structured training plus all 12 Professional Skills Modules, then APC interview.

PrQS
Recognised prior learning under a PrQS / MRICS supervisor

Professional Quantity Surveyor (RPL route)

Extensive practical QS experience under a PrQS without the standard academic route. Typically 5+ years. RPL application required.

Candidacy path

1. Register as a Candidate QS — Online on sacqsp.org.za. ID, qualification, Letter of Undertaking from a PrQS (or MRICS if working outside SA), proof of residence, SAQA if foreign.

2. Keep the QS Diary — Structured workplace training at 1,900 hours/year (8-hour day, 240-day year). P2P is a working log — the official diary stays on SACQSP.

3. PSMs if required — Candidates without a 480-credit Hons complete 12 Professional Skills Modules before the APC interview.

4. APC submissions — Activity Summary, Project Summary, Project Specific Report, declarations, Cat 1 CPD proof (min 20 hours).

5. APC oral interview — About 90 minutes. Panel of PrQSs plus Registrar. Present the Project Specific Report and answer practice questions. Fail deferral is at least 8 months.

Drafts P2P can assemble

Starting drafts only. You copy into SACQSP APC documents / QS Diary.

Workplace training is counted at 1,900 hours/year. PSMs are required unless you hold a 480-credit Hons. The APC oral is about 90 minutes.
